Assistant Finance Controller

Location: Brize Norton
Rate: £32.00 per hour Umbrella / £23.92 per hour PAYE
Contract: 9 months
Working Pattern: Full-time, onsite

Morson are recruiting on behalf of a leading global aerospace and defence company for an Assistant Finance Controller to support the Financial Controller and Finance Director with financial planning, cost control, forecasting and reporting.

This is a hands-on finance role supporting the day-to-day understanding and control of operational costs, cash flow and financial performance. You will work closely with operational teams, procurement and finance colleagues to ensure costs, revenues and allocations are accurately recorded and reported.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Financial Controller with financial planning, reporting and analysis.
  • Maintain cost, revenue and cash flow forecasts across the business.
  • Work with operational teams to understand resource requirements and associated cost impacts.
  • Monitor actual costs and revenue allocations and investigate variances.
  • Prepare cost centre reports and provide meaningful financial analysis to support management decision-making.
  • Support month-end activities, including accruals, allocations, journals and sales reserves.
  • Review and advise on financial coding and procurement commitments.
  • Liaise with Procurement to ensure open commitments are correctly evaluated and costs are recognised in a timely manner.
  • Support payroll accounting, billing and invoicing processes.
  • Assist with treasury and cash management activities.
  • Identify and report financial risks and opportunities.
  • Support regular operating planning and forecasting processes.
  • Provide financial information and ad-hoc reporting for MOD and UK Government requirements.
  • Present financial analysis and reporting to local management and programme customers.
  • Work closely with finance and operational teams to support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Challenge existing processes and identify opportunities to improve financial controls and reporting.

About You

The successful candidate will have a good working knowledge of finance and be comfortable working with financial data, costs and forecasts.

You should have experience with:

  • Debits and credits and fundamental accounting principles.
  • Cash flow forecasting.
  • Profit & Loss (P&L) reporting and analysis.
  • Cost centre reporting and cost control.
  • Financial forecasting and variance analysis.
  • Procurement costs, coding and commitments.
  • Journals, accruals and financial allocations.
  • Producing financial reports and analysis for management.

A formal accountancy qualification is not essential. AAT, CIMA or similar finance qualifications would be advantageous, alongside relevant practical finance experience.
