Telford & Wrekin Council is looking to appoint an Assistant Empty Property Officer to support our work bringing long term empty homes back into use.
This is a practical, people focused role where you will work with property owners, partner services and internal colleagues to help tackle empty properties across the borough. You will play a key part in improving neighbourhoods, increasing housing supply and reducing the negative impacts of long term empties such as blight and anti social behaviour.
You will manage your own caseload, carry out investigations into property ownership, support informal and negotiated solutions, and contribute to monitoring performance against key targets.
Key responsibilities- Identify, investigate and monitor long term empty properties across the borough
- Trace owners using a range of sources, including Land Registry, probate records and housing market data
- Provide advice, guidance and practical solutions to owners to bring properties back into use
- Carry out accompanied and solo site visits to empty properties, recording and photographing relevant information
- Manage your own caseload from start to finish, prioritising work effectively with minimal supervision
- Maintain accurate records, case files and data systems, including data analysis and risk assessment
- Work closely with colleagues in finance, council tax, legal, planning, building control and housing services
- Handle enquiries and complaints from members of the public, property owners and partner organisations
- Support performance monitoring, data returns and key performance indicators
- Contribute to service improvement by identifying innovative and creative approaches to dealing with empty homes
We're looking for someone who is organised, resilient and confident working with the public on sometimes sensitive or challenging issues.
Experience of housing enforcement, empty properties, property inspection or renovation issues would be an advantage, but is not essential.
