Interim Assistant Director - Corporate Finance & Deputy s151 Officer
London - (Hybrid / 2 days on site)
6-month contract
£900 per day (Inside IR35)
We are seeking an experienced senior finance leader to step into a pivotal interim role as Assistant Director for Corporate Finance & Deputy s151 Officer within a forward-thinking London-based local authority. This is a fantastic opportunity to shape financial strategy at a corporate level and provide statutory oversight at a time of transformation and financial challenge.
The Role
As part of the senior leadership team, you'll provide strategic direction across core financial functions including Corporate Finance, Treasury, Capital and Pension Investments, Revenue Planning, and Procurement. You will act as the Deputy s151 Officer, advising Members and Senior Officers, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and good governance.

The Role
As part of the senior leadership team, you'll provide strategic direction across core financial functions including Corporate Finance, Treasury, Capital and Pension Investments, Revenue Planning, and Procurement. You will act as the Deputy s151 Officer, advising Members and Senior Officers, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations and good governance.
You'll be responsible for:
- Leading the development of sustainable financial strategies aligned to corporate priorities
- Supporting the delivery of balanced budgets and performance improvement across departments
- Providing expert advice on financial options, risk, and policy decisions
- Managing relationships with key internal stakeholders and external bodies
- Driving service and financial planning integration and overseeing financial performance reporting
- Deputising for the s151 Officer as required
- Qualified accountant (CIPFA, ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with full membership of a recognised professional body
- Proven leadership experience at a senior finance level within a local authority or complex public sector setting
- Strong understanding of the statutory duties under Section 151 of the Local Government Act 1972
- Demonstrated experience in managing large finance functions and leading cross-organisational projects
- Politically astute, with excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Track record of delivering innovation, driving performance and embedding financial best practice
