Job Description
A bit about you
  • You're a medior/senior-level AI engineer with strong backend sensibilities. You've got 3+ years of software engineering experience, with significant focus on (or interest in) LLM/ML systems.
  • You've got hands-on experience with LLM integrations, prompt engineering, and RAG setups, as well as a deep understanding of knowledge structuring and knowledge based systems.
  • You love building smart systems that actually get used, not just writing papers about them. You're also pragmatic: you know where AI shines, and where structured logic still wins.
  • You're a self-starter, but you're not a lone wolf. You can work independently to break down complex problems into actionable steps. Explaining these clearly, even to non-technical colleagues, is why people enjoy working with you.
  • You've worked in a software development team before, so you're familiar with coding practices like Git, automated testing and, well, writing decent code. :)
  • Bonus points if you have:

Experience with e-commerce product data and/or recommendation systems

Exposure to distributed systems or cloud-native environments

Experience with evaluating and verifying LLM model performance

Some frontend familiarity (but it's not required)

  • You have an EU citizenship or a valid permit to work in the Netherlands.

A bit about us
  1. Aiden is a young software company based in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Since November 2024, we've been part of the Shop Circle team - operating independently, with the perks of being in good company.
  2. With a tight-knit group of talented and fun people, we're building great software to improve the way e-commerce works for customers and businesses.
  3. Our mission: making great product advice accessible to everyone. We create tools that help our clients transform their expertise into intelligent customer-facing applications, guiding customers to find the perfect product. Our customers include industry leaders like MediaMarkt, LG, and many others.
  4. We're a small team, and we like it that way. Our clients love it too. And for our team, it means more ownership, more freedom, and actually getting stuff done.
  5. We're ambitious, but that doesn't mean we're an "always on" type of company. You'll get the freedom and flexibility to do your best work, your way.
  6. As for our backend tech stack: We work with Kotlin, ElasticSearch, PostgreSQL, Svelte and Elm, with our infrastructure running on Kubernetes in Google Cloud. Experience with (part of this) stack is a bonus, but not required.

What you'll do

You'll be our first dedicated AI engineer, which means you'll play a key role in turning Aiden's domain advice logic into scalable, AI-ready infrastructure. You'll be instrumental in plugging Aiden into the broader LLM/AI ecosystem while maintaining our pragmatic, product-first approach.

In your first year, you'll focus on:

  • Researching, developing and finetuneing smart agents that provide accurate and relevant product advice
  • Enhancing existing product features with GenAI capabilities that deliver value
  • Running rapid experiments to evaluate which models and approaches work best for our use cases

You won't do this alone: you'll join our Product team and work together with Dennis, Rienk, Mayon, Sietse and Maarten.

What we're offering

We're not an IT consultancy, so we won't put you in a lease car. What we do offer - besides a great salary - is a great place to work, with a few perks the big guys often forget:

  1. Hybrid working. Our office is in the heart of Utrecht, the Netherlands, and we'd love to see you there at least one day a week. If you prefer working from home (or wherever you feel most productive) for the rest of the week, go for it.
  2. Real impact. We're a small team. Whatever your role, you'll have direct influence on how we work and grow. Also: no scrum! We value pragmatic solutions over ceremonial processes.
  3. Time off. You'll get 25 vacation days.
  4. New parent time! If you're welcoming a child, you'll get 2 extra weeks off on top of your statutory leave - and it doesn't count against your vacation days.
  5. Room to grow. Whether it's learning, researching, or diving into a course: there's always space to expand your knowledge, and plenty to share within the team.

How to apply
  1. Put together your CV and a short note on why you think you'd be a great fit.
  2. Send it to . Applications through LinkedIn only will be rejected!
  3. We'll let you know within a few days if we see a potential match.
