About the Opportunity

Nuclear Power Programmes are delivering client critical works to some of our major UK and European Projects. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (a new build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small Modular Reactor) capability, and working towards building Poland's first Nuclear Power station.

Working in both client-facing and internal roles, we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are committed to delivering safe, high-quality, and timely solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.

The Hinkley Point C Equipment Programme is responsible for delivering the majority of the mechanical, electrical, and process equipment that will form the power station. Contracts may involve discrete components or complete systems, delivered in partnership with NNB's global supply chain. Contract values range from £250k to £150m. Input design is completed by the EDF Responsible Designer, with detailed design completed by the equipment supplier.

As an Area Engineering Lead, you will join the Nuclear New Builds' (NNB) Technical Directorate to work on a day-to-day basis on site with NNB's Joint Design Office.

Your role involves assisting the Area Engineering Manager and coordinating all engineering disciplines to support the construction of a specific area. You will operationally manage the Designers' deliverables, including coordinating and managing design changes, monitoring and ensuring configuration control, responding to site queries, and closing open design points.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Act as the lead point of contact for a defined plant scope and manage a small design team.
  • Collaborate with delivery and construction teams to gather requirements, define scope, schedule, and prioritize engineering tasks to meet site needs.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary, cross-contract interfaces and act as mediator or decision-maker for project decisions.
  • Work closely with design, contractor, and construction teams to maintain technical quality, construction schedule, and safety.
  • Coordinate interfaces and open points to ensure all design and construction changes are finalized before the construction schedule, managing expectations and mediating technical resolutions as needed.
  • Accept design packages for a defined plant scope, ensuring they meet functional requirements.
  • Identify issues affecting nuclear safety and ensure compliance with project quality procedures.
  • Report risks and interfaces to the Engineering Manager and facilitate issue resolution.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience in an Engineering Discipline (preferably Civil or Structural).
  • Solid experience in designing Infrastructure, Civil, and Structural works.
  • Experience in stakeholder management, both internal and external.
  • Previous site engineering experience and management of design change processes.
  • Understanding of contract management, particularly NEC, CDM Regulations, etc.
  • Desirable: experience in a regulated industry and proficiency with BIM software such as Navisworks, Tekla, or Revit.
