Role Description

The main focus for the Business Advisory team is to help businesses struggling with VAT, PAYE/NI and other HMRC arrears, that typically arise as a direct result of bad debts, a significant decline in turnover, sector challenges or the insolvency of key clients. You will work in the specialist business advisory team with a proven track record of successfully negotiating with HMRC, enabling repayment plans, and helping businesses survive and recover.


Our team provides expert services in cash management, interim management consultancy, and introductions to asset-based lenders. The successful candidate will assist in delivering these services and play a vital role in supporting clients through periods of financial difficulty.

Supporting the delivery of high-quality solutions to clients and encourage collaborative working with Restructuring and Insolvency, Funding, Business Services and Legal teams within Leonard Curtis.

The specific duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing P&L accounts and cash flow forecasts for repayment of debts to HMRC
  • Preparing / drafting reports for HMRC negotiations and short-form business reviews
  • Liaising regularly with business owners and directors to obtain critical accounting and sales information
  • Assisting Leonard Curtis managers and directors with cash management strategies for distressed businesses
  • Liaising with prospective asset based lenders and other funders, providing sales projections and forecasts
  • General filing and setting up of cases

Additionally, you will have the opportunity to assist on a range of projects with regular interaction with clients, banks, advisors, and other service lines. This will include:

  • Assisting with day-to-day management of transaction processes, including the preparation of information packs, management presentations, financial analysis, and client communications
  • Financial modelling and analysing business forecasts


Skills required

  • Previous experience within debt advisory or restructuring is not required, we are looking for an inquisitive, client focused individual to join our team with full training provided to support your career development.
  • If you are either a recent A-Level student or recent graduate (ideally with a degree related to accounting, finance, business or another relevant subject), we want to hear from you
  • Self-driven with a positive outlook
  • Motivated and proactive with the ability to work well both alone and as part of a team
  • Strong organisation and planning skills with ability to work to deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Sound financial knowledge and numerical skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office packages
