Deliver safe, effective assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients working both independently and collaboratively. Primarily part of the urgent care team, ensuring timely access to high-quality care for patients presenting with acute needs.
Main duties of the jobRole Summary
- Provide autonomous, evidence-based care via face-to-face and telephone consultations.
- Act as an Independent Prescriber within agreed clinical guidelines.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
- Practice within scope of competence and agreed clinical limits.
- Be accountable for clinical decisions, including referral, discharge, and follow-up planning.

Professional & Educational Duties
- Adhere to NMC Code of Conduct and regulatory standards.
- Maintain professional registration and complete mandatory training.
- Participate in supervision, reviews, and competency assessments.
- Engage in audits, research, and teaching activities.
ANP-Specific Requirements
- Perform holistic assessments in routine and urgent care settings.
- Hold and maintain an Independent Prescribing qualification.
- Demonstrate confidence in autonomous clinical decision-making.
Additional Duties
- Ensure safety of patients, staff, and visitors, report incidents and risks.
- Identify and support patients at risk of abuse; follow safeguarding protocols.
- Comply with practice policies including confidentiality, infection control, and equality.
- Support business continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Professional Registration & Qualifications
- Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
- Masters degree (mandatory for ACP qualification post-December 2020, aligned with RCN Credentialing for Advanced Level Nursing Practice).
- Postgraduate diploma or degree (accepted for ACP qualification up to December 2020).
- Qualified Independent Nurse Prescriber, registered with the NMC.
- Full compliance with NMC revalidation requirements as outlined in the NMC Revalidation framework.
- Technical & Administrative Competence
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Familiarity with GP practice systems and prescribing data monitoring platforms.
- Skilled in producing clear, accurate, and comprehensive clinical documentation.
- Competence in developing, implementing, and reviewing patient care plans.
- Governance & Compliance
- Strong understanding of data protection regulations (GDPR).
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality within a GP practice environment.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Clear understanding of NHS principles, values, and frameworks.
