Adult and Adolescent Psychiatric Nurses (PSN26)

Overview

St Patrick's Mental Health Services (SPMHS) is Ireland's largest independent, not for profit mental health provider, offering excellent psychiatric nursing opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for adults and adolescents within a multi disciplinary team.
• Lead ward management in the absence of senior staff and support clinical governance.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, infection control and risk management.
• Collaborate with families and service users to develop and implement recovery oriented care plans.
• Provide therapeutic interventions, education and discharge planning for individual and group settings.
• Maintain confidential patient records in accordance with hospital policy.
• Supervise less experienced staff and support professional development.

Qualifications (essential)

• Current registration with the psychiatric division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) or eligibility for registration.
• Proven ability to establish solid working relationships within an organisation and with service users.
• Excellent clinical knowledge of adult and adolescent psychiatric nursing.
• Post registration experience desirable.
• Adolescent applicants only: adolescent mental health nursing experience desirable.

• Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
• Self motivated with initiative and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of outside agencies, therapeutic groups and mental health legislation.
• Proven awareness of own limitations and ability to seek direction when required.

Terms and Conditions

• Permanent contract, 75 hour fortnight with rotating shift roster.
• Salary based on experience and SPMHS 2026 enhanced scale.
• Annual leave and pension scheme as per hospital policy.
• Probationary period of six months with ongoing review.
