Job Description: Activity Leader - SKOLA Summer School

Job Title: Activity Leader

Location: Central London (Non-Residential), SKOLA Regents Park and/or SKOLA Gloucester Gate.

Reports To: Operations manager and Director of Studies

Contract Type: Part-time or Fixed-Term Summer Contract (16th June to 31th August, 2025).

Hours: Maximum of 48 hours per week. Monday to Saturday.

Job Purpose:

To plan, organise , and lead a varied programme of activities and excursions for international students attending SKOLA Summer School. The Activity Leader plays a crucial role in ensuring students have an enjoyable, safe, and enriching experience outside of the classroom, contributing significantly to their overall satisfaction and well-being during their stay in London.

Compensation:

  • Competitive weekly salary: £600 per week, Monday to Saturday inclusive

  • Holiday pay (12.07%)

  • Paid induction training provided.

  • Lunch provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Activity Planning & Delivery: Plan, prepare, and lead a diverse range of engaging activities, including sports, arts and crafts, drama, team games, and evening social events.

  • Sign-in and Sign-out: Set up, enact and tidy up the start and end of the day.

  • Supporting transitions: Take a leading role in supporting transitions, including breaks, lunch times and trips.

  • Excursion Leadership (Weekday and Weekend): Lead groups of students on excursions to cultural landmarks and attractions in and around London, providing guidance and ensuring their safety and engagement.

  • Student Welfare & Safety: Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times during activities and excursions, adhering strictly to SKOLA's safeguarding policies and procedures. Act as a positive role model.

  • Engagement & Encouragement: Motivate and encourage students to participate fully in the activity programme , fostering a positive and inclusive atmosphere.

  • Pastoral Care: Provide a supportive and friendly presence for students, assisting with their general well-being during programme hours.

  • Teamwork & Communication: Work collaboratively with other Activity Leaders, teaching staff, and management. Communicate effectively with students and colleagues. Attend daily briefings and staff meetings as required.

  • Administration: Assist with administrative tasks related to the activity programme , such as taking registers, managing equipment, and reporting any incidents.

  • Flexibility: Adapt activities and schedules as needed based on weather, student interest, or other unforeseen circumstances.

Qualifications & Experience:

Essential:

  • Right to work in the UK.

  • Fluent level of spoken and written English.

  • Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check (or willingness to undergo one facilitated by SKOLA).

  • Experience working with children or teenagers (e.g., youth groups, summer camps, sports coaching).

  • Demonstrable enthusiasm, energy, and a positive attitude.

  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and manage groups of young people.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.

  • Reliable, responsible, and mature approach to work.

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

  • Flexibility and adaptability.

Desirable:

  • Valid First Aid certificate.

  • Safeguarding training/certification.

  • Experience working in a summer school or similar international environment.

  • Knowledge of London and its attractions.

  • Specific skills in sports coaching, arts, crafts, drama, or music.

Working Hours:

  • This is a fixed-term, non-residential position.

  • Working hours are approximately 48 hours per week, spread over six days.

  • The schedule will include mornings, afternoons, and weekend work on a rota basis to cover the full activity programme .

  • One full day off per week (day may vary).
