Job Description

The Opportunity

This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing Top 100 accountancy firm with a strong reputation across Staffordshire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester.

The firm is looking to appoint an experienced Accounts Manager to take ownership of a varied portfolio of clients while working closely with Directors and the wider management team.

This isn't simply a portfolio-management role. You'll be encouraged to build genuine relationships with your clients, understand their businesses and identify opportunities where the firm can provide additional support.

For an experienced Senior Accountant or existing Manager looking for greater autonomy, progression and client responsibility, this represents an excellent next step.

The Role

You'll take responsibility for the coordination and delivery of services across your own portfolio of clients.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses
  • Acting as the primary point of contact for clients
  • Reviewing statutory accounts prepared by junior members of the team
  • Reviewing corporation tax computations and personal tax work
  • Providing basic tax planning and proactive business advice
  • Managing client deadlines, workflow and overall service delivery
  • Building strong, long-term relationships with business owners
  • Reviewing work and providing constructive feedback to trainees and junior accountants
  • Coaching and mentoring developing members of the team
  • Identifying opportunities to introduce additional services to existing clients
  • Working collaboratively with Tax, Audit and other specialist teams
  • Supporting Directors with more complex client matters
  • Helping improve processes and service delivery across the department

The Candidate

The successful candidate will ideally have:

  • ACA or ACCA qualification, although strong qualified-by-experience candidates will also be considered
  • Significant experience within UK accountancy practice
  • Previous experience managing or taking significant responsibility for a client portfolio
  • Strong statutory accounts and corporation tax knowledge
  • Experience reviewing work prepared by junior accountants
  • Confidence dealing directly with business owners
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • The ability to manage deadlines and prioritise a varied workload
  • A proactive approach to identifying opportunities to add value to clients
