Accountant - Public Sector

Your new company
Hays Accountancy & Finance are partnering with a public sector organisation to recruit an experienced Management Accountant for an initial 3-6 month assignment. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant to step into a key role supporting financial planning, reporting and business partnering activities within a complex and fast-paced environment.

Your new role
Working as part of the finance team, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality management accounting support and ensuring timely financial information is available to support decision-making.Key responsibilities include:

• Production of monthly management accounts for both Exchequer and Lottery-funded activities.
• Forecasting expenditure through to year-end and providing accurate financial projections.
• Preparing detailed budgetary reports for budget holders and supporting them through effective business partnering.
• Developing a strong understanding of the CIVICA accounting system and utilising it to support financial reporting requirements.
• Identifying opportunities to streamline and improve management accounting processes and controls.
• Supporting budgeting, forecasting and financial planning activities as required.
• Providing financial insight and analysis to support operational and strategic decision making.

What you'll need to succeed
To be considered, you will ideally have:

• Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
• Previous experience producing management accounts within a large or complex organisation.
• Strong forecasting, budgeting and financial analysis skills.
• Proven ability to build relationships with non-finance stakeholders and budget holders.
• Excellent Excel and financial systems experience.
• Experience of public sector accounting environments would be advantageous.
• Knowledge of CIVICA financial systems would be highly desirable, although not essential.
