Somerset NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiology Consultant to join a forward thinking and collaborative team based across Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton, and Yeovil District Hospital. This role offers a 10 PA job plan, a flexible working structure, and a strong commitment to education, research and clinical governance. You will contribute to teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, audit, service development initiatives, and provide high quality patient care.
Key departmental facilities include 10 MRI scanners, 10 CT scanners, 10 ultrasound bays, a PET CT scanner and a purpose built oncology centre.

Responsibilities- Deliver a high standard of diagnostic imaging services across inpatients, outpatients, emergency and primary care.
- Participate in the provision of a full range of cross sectional imaging services and multi disciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
- Contribute to the Radiology Department's on call service on a 1:12 rota (cross sectional only).
- Undertake clinical reporting sessions, including CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film as per the agreed job plan.
- Supervise and teach junior doctors, medical students and other clinical staff.
- Engage in clinical audit, quality improvement and contribute to the development of clinical guidelines.
- Participate in departmental management, administration and service development activities.
- Support and comply with clinical governance, infection control, risk management and safeguarding policies.
- Maintain professional development through CPD, appraisal and mandatory training.
- Contribute to research activities and promote evidence based practice.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues and play an active role in delivering high quality patient centred care.
- Full General Medical Council (GMC) registration with a licence to practise.
- Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (FRCR) or equivalent qualification.
- Specialist registration with the GMC or within 6 months of interview date to obtain via CCT or CESR (CP).
- Desirable: an appropriate higher degree or qualification (MD, PhD or equivalent).
- Depth and breadth of clinical experience in radiology.
- Experience in a special interest that complements existing departmental expertise.
- Minimum of four years of radiology training (SpR level or equivalent) in an approved programme.
- Desirable experience within the NHS (e.g., locum consultant level).
- Desirable experience in Head and Neck radiology.
- Desirable experience of basic intervention.
- Provide high quality care and dedicated non residential on call cover (with internal cover).
- Competent to work without direct supervision where appropriate.
- Clear, logical thinking showing an analytical/scientific approach.
- Ability to lead and develop the service.
- Willingness and ability to fulfil the key elements of the job description.
- Ability to cope with the demands of a DGH based consultant.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships on an individual, multi professional and team basis with all levels.
- Understanding of clinical governance and the individual responsibilities it implies.
- Knowledge of the NHS plan/modernisation agenda and its implications for service.
- Knowledge of principles of research.
- Driving licence or ability to travel between sites.
- Meets professional health requirements.

- Desirable evidence of general management training and self development in recruitment, selection, leadership, planning, change management, appraisal.
