Probation Officer - Offender Management

Location: West Midlands, Birmingham North, East & Solihull
Contract: 12-month assignment (with potential for extension)
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Start Date: 5th January 2026
Pay: £19.90 per hour PAYE or £26.20 Umbrella
Travel: Not required

Role Purpose

The Probation Officer will provide effective offender management, supervising and supporting service users in accordance with statutory requirements and local policies. The role focuses on risk assessment, rehabilitation planning, and ensuring compliance with the criminal justice system.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and supervise allocated caseloads of offenders, ensuring compliance with court orders and statutory obligations.
  • Conduct risk assessments, sentence planning, and rehabilitation planning in line with national and local policies.
  • Engage effectively with offenders to support behaviour change and reduce reoffending.
  • Liaise with courts, law enforcement, and partner agencies to coordinate offender management.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and case files in accordance with probation service standards.
  • Contribute to the safety of the community by effectively assessing and managing risk.
  • Attend meetings, training, and development sessions as required.
Essential Criteria
  • Qualified Probation Officer (PO) - mandatory
  • Proven experience in offender management and probation services
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage sensitive and complex caseloads effectively
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
