Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics (Fixed Term)

This post is fixed term up to 1 year to meet the needs of the service.
This post is a replacement of an existing post but offers diverse roles and developmental opportunities tailored to the applicant's interests. It provides middle grade cover to the general paediatric, PAU at RGH and to the outpatient clinics under the supervision of consultants, complementing the existing middle grade posts in the department. The post holder will participate in a 1:8 prospective rolling rota shared with existing specialty doctors.
The post holder will be based at RGH but may be expected to work across different sites within the Health Board depending upon needs.

Main duties of the job- Conduct daily ward rounds in the Children's Ward, RGH and report to the consultant in charge. Participate in PAU cover.
- Supervise the junior medical team and act as a source of advice and support to the nursing staff.
- See patients in A+E upon request of paediatrics junior doctors and consultants.
- Carry out safeguarding medical examinations when adequately trained.
- Attend specialist clinics as per area of interest.
- See new and follow up general paediatric patients in the clinics under the supervision of a consultant.
- Participate in clinical/medical audit, teaching and research within the children's service.
- Manage the acute paediatric intake at PCH with junior and consultant support.

Job responsibilitiesThe post holder will have opportunities to develop expertise in an area of paediatric specialty such as epilepsy, diabetes, allergy, asthma, cardiology, community paediatrics and neurodevelopmental paediatrics.
The post holder will also have opportunities to undertake professional development activities, audit work, and will engage in the appraisal process.
Person Specification Qualifications- Full GMC registration
- oMRPCH part 1 a & b
- oMRCPCH or equivalent
- oNLS
- Minimum 4 years or equivalent postgraduate training, two of which must be in paediatrics
- Experience of multi agency working
- Able to keep good medical notes
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Understanding of child safeguarding
- Demonstrated ability to lead a multi disciplinary team
- Level 1-3 child protection training
