As well as Chester-le-Street, this role is commutable from Gateshead, Newcastle upon Tyne, Consett, Durham, Sunderland, Middlesbrough, Hartlepool, Darlington, South Shields, Wallsend, Longbenton and the surrounding areas.Here at Tarmac, we are working hard to create a dynamic and inclusive environment and it's important that our people come from a variety of different backgrounds.Main ResponsibilitiesThe role of Shipper will form part of a team that are critical to the delivery of a professional distribution service to our customers, devising a schedule that accounts for the needs of the customer, optimisation of the plant network and most cost-effective use of the vehicle fleet. The role of Shipper will also:Contribute to the success of the team by providing the best offer for our customers, enhancing their experience promoting Tarmac as the supplier of choiceEffectively plan and schedule the programme of works ensuring timely delivery of orders against agreed time frames with the customers whilst optimising cost through effective truck utilisationMake educated decisions on optimum fleet numbers, transfers & requirement for hired trucks using all necessary dataManage hired haulage cost through understanding Owner Driver earnings v cost of hiring externally/transferring trucksMonitor real time progress of scheduled orders allowing you to identify potential problem areas and proactively resolve them effectivelyLiaison with plants to ensure raw materials are in place to meet the forecast order and delivery scheduleBuild and maintaining good rapport and effective working relationships with other team members including plant staff, contract hauliers and customersRespond positively & confidently to our customers' enquires, seeking support where necessaryProvide customers with progress information of deliveries, in particular immediate notification of late loadsThe Ideal CandidateTo be successful in this role of Shipper the ideal candidate will have:Ability to effectively operate a varied range of IT systemsPrevious experience of working in a scheduling or distribution environment is preferredBackground in operating distribution and or scheduling systemsProficient in use of system and demonstrate consistent, professional style and approachAwareness of sales team role and the link with distributionUnderstanding of out of hours agreement, truck sizes, availability and payment termsAbility to recognise and conform with nationally approved processes and best practice proceduresAware and understand individual plant capacities and capabilitiesWhy TarmacWe don't just offer a job, we offer a career.Alongside this role, you'll have access to industry-leading rewards, development opportunities, and a culture that puts people first, including:Bonus schemeEnhanced holiday entitlementContributory pension schemeAccess to the Tarmac Reward website with discounts on retailers, holidays, etc.Access to our Employee Assistance helpline for free and confidential adviceAccess to join our Employee Communities (employee networks) we currently have nine communities inc.
