Rock and Pop Music Teacher - Alfreton

Department: Band Leaders

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Derbyshire

Compensation: £27,000 - £32,000 / year

Overview

Rocksteady Music School is the UK's biggest employer of full-time, permanent musicians. We teach in-school rock and pop band lessons to primary age children. We're a community of musicians and music-lovers, on a mission to remove barriers to music education so that no child gets left behind. We're currently in thousands of schools in the UK, teaching over 100,000 children every week - and we're growing fast. Join us as a band leader and your passion will inspire the next generation.

Our band leaders often come from diverse backgrounds so we know you might not currently be working in a music-related role or have any teaching experience. If you can bring the right combination of musical ability, passion for our purpose and enthusiasm for learning, then we can offer the training you need to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities
  • Teach groups of primary-age children in a fun, inspiring rock and pop band format in up to 10 schools per week.
  • Give children their first opportunity to learn an instrument - teaching drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
  • Work independently as part of a remote team of band leaders, supported by our central teams.
  • Be a rock and pop star role-model, empowering and supporting children in primary schools to deliver live performances at their end-of-term concerts.
  • Help children develop self-belief, resilience and wellbeing through performing in a band.
  • Represent Rocksteady, building relationships with schools, teachers and parents.
  • Be prepared for highly active days and travel between schools; load and unload equipment and set up/pack away at each location.
Requirements
  • Competence on at least two of the following instruments: drums, guitar, bass, keyboard and vocals.
  • Willingness to learn how to teach band lessons and complete the extensive training programme before starting timetable.
  • Resilience to work in a role with high moments and challenges, often in the same day.
  • Confidence to be yourself at work and communicate effectively with children, teachers and parents.
  • Commitment to the safety and well-being of children and young people.
  • Organised, independent worker with good time management and administration skills.
  • UK/EU driving licence and own transport; ability to transport equipment between schools.
Benefits
  • Full-time, salaried position.
  • Work Monday - Friday, daytime hours.
  • 11+ weeks paid holiday per year.
  • Fuel contribution - 45p per business mile.
  • Annual staff bonus - £1,500 per annum.
  • Long service award: an additional 4 weeks' pay after 5 years.
  • Full training in progressive teaching methodologies.
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including discounts on everyday purchases and free 24/7 GP service.
  • Enhanced maternity and paternity pay.
  • Staff away-days, Christmas parties and social events.
  • Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation reaching children and families across the UK.
Additional Information

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expect all staff to share this commitment.

As this role involves regular work with children and young people, it is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. You must disclose all unspent and spent cautions and convictions. Further details on what convictions must be declared can be found in government guidance. You can find more about recruitment of ex-offenders in our policy.

If offered this position, you will be asked to complete an enhanced DBS check with a children's barred list check.

It is an offence to apply for regulated activity if you have been barred from working with children. Providing false information is also an offence and could result in dismissal.

Rocksteady Music School is an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to the fair treatment of staff, potential staff, and services regardless of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, responsibilities for dependents, age, disability, or offending background.
