Job Title: Principal Engineer - Metrology (Dimensional Calibration)

The ICS Dimensional team:
The Calibration department currently supports 30,000 pieces of equipment per year, ranging from traditional analogue equipment through to state-of-the-art digital systems. ICS Dimensional Laboratory focuses on the calibration, maintenance, and repair of TMDE capable of making length, flatness, parallelism, surface roughness, angular, optical, screw gauge (1D) and CMM (3D) measurements. ICS Dimensional consists of around 8+ team members. ICS Dimensional sits alongside various other teams within the overall Calibration department, consisting of 50+ team members. We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

What you'll be doing:
- Contribute to ICS Dimensional team leadership when required - Including people management wherever required, resource management, workflow management, and workload signoff
- Perform high end calibrations & repairs on a wide variety of Dimensional test, measurement and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) including maintaining and increasing capability, and capacity through investment projects
- Deliver and measure effectiveness of specific on the job training/experiential learning to ICS Dimensional team members and apprentices/graduates
- Design, review, and approve calibration procedures and measurement uncertainty budgets
- Take part in a range of Quality audits (including UKAS/ISO 17025), achieving UKAS signatory status
- Drive increase in issue of UKAS/ISO 17025 accredited parameters and certification issue
Essential:
- Extensive experience working in a precision Dimensional Calibration/metrology laboratory environment
- Understanding of quality systems & standards (ISO 17025/ISO 9001)
- Relevant academic qualification (STEM Degree, HNC/HND) or equivalent
- Existing UKAS signatory status for Dimensional Calibration
- Knowledge in creation of measurement uncertainty budgets to ISO 17025 level
- Demonstrable use of automation software (PC Dimis, Fluke Metcal, Met/Track, Met/Teams, Labview)
- Experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Temperature and other engineering calibrations
