Overview

We're looking for an experienced Microsoft Purview SME with strong hands-on knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management - not just DLP or security.

You'll support a major data transformation programme for a leading UK consultancy, helping design and implement governance frameworks across Azure and Microsoft 365 data estates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, configure and implement Purview Data Governance solutions including:

    • Data Map, Data Catalog, Business Glossary, and Data Lineage

    • Metadata ingestion, classification, and scanning across hybrid sources (Azure, SQL, Synapse, Power BI)

    • Establish Data Domains, ownership models, and stewardship roles

  • Define and implement Data Quality and Metadata Management practices

  • Integrate Purview with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric

  • Collaborate with Data Owners, Architects, and Stewards to operationalise governance policies

  • Develop and deliver workshops on data management best practice

  • Create dashboards and metrics to monitor data quality and compliance maturity

  • Contribute to the definition of a scalable data governance operating model

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with Microsoft Purview (Data Catalog, Data Map, Business Glossary, Lineage)

  • Deep understanding of metadata management, data quality, and governance frameworks

  • Hands-on experience integrating Purview with Azure SQL, Synapse, Power BI, and Fabric

  • Proven ability to deliver data governance operating models (roles, policies, stewardship)

  • Familiarity with Collibra, Informatica, or Alation (nice to have)

  • Excellent stakeholder skills and the ability to lead governance workshops

  • Strong knowledge of Azure data services and data architecture concepts

Desirable

  • Experience delivering data governance within regulated industries (finance, public sector, pharma, utilities)

  • Knowledge of data privacy frameworks (GDPR, DPA 2018)

  • Microsoft certifications in Data Engineering, Data Governance, or Azure Fundamentals
