Position OverviewWe are seeking a motivated Mechanical Project Engineer with approximately 5+ years of relevant experience to join our growing engineering team. The successful candidate will support the delivery of energy efficiency and decarbonisation projects for industrial clients, contributing to the design, implementation, and optimisation of mechanical and utility systems in high energy use environments. This role suits an engineer who is technically strong, delivery focused, and looking to develop toward a senior / project lead role within an energy consultancy environment.
Key Responsibilities Project Delivery & Engineering Support- Support the mechanical design and lead the execution of energy related projects, including:
- HVAC systems and upgrades
- Compressed air systems
- Heat recovery and energy reuse
- Steam, hot water and thermal systems
- Refrigeration and process cooling systems
- Contribute to feasibility studies, concept design, and detailed engineering under the guidance of senior engineers.
- Assist with site surveys, data collection, and validation of existing systems.
- Prepare mechanical engineering calculations, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Develop supporting drawings, schematics, and tender information as required.
- Contribute to energy modelling, system performance analysis, and savings calculations where applicable.
- Work closely with project managers, senior engineers, and cross disciplinary teams to deliver projects to programme and quality requirements.
- Support contractor engagement during installation, commissioning, and handover phases.
- Attend site meetings and support resolution of technical queries.
- Contributes to preparation and review of tender documentation, contractor proposals, and technical clarifications from a cost-benefit and risk perspective.
- Interface with client engineering and operations teams with support from senior colleagues.
- Assist in preparing technical reports and presenting findings in a clear, structured manner.
- Understands the importance of client value, repeatability, and practical implementation, not just technical optimisation.
- Stay informed of emerging technologies, best practice, and regulatory developments in industrial energy systems.
- Contribute ideas for improving energy performance, safety, and system reliability.
- Mechanical Engineering Fundamentals: Strong grounding in thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and mechanical systems design.
- Industrial Utilities Exposure: Experience with one or more of HVAC, steam systems, compressed air, chilled water, or process utilities.
- Project Mindset: Comfortable working across multiple projects with structure, accountability, and attention to detail. Maintains accurate records to support project reporting, governance, and commercial control.
- Demonstrates an understanding of project cost drivers, value engineering, and the commercial implications of design decisions.
- Supports delivery of projects in line with agreed scopes, programmes, and budgets, escalating risks or scope changes appropriately.
- Technical Documentation: Experience producing calculations, reports, and engineering deliverables suitable for client and contractor use.
- Regulations & Standards: Familiarity with Irish and EU standards and guidelines (e.g. CIBSE, ASHRAE, PED, IS/EN standards).
- Communication: Able to engage professionally with colleagues, clients, and contractors.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Typically 5+ years' experience in a mechanical engineering role, ideally within:
- Energy, industrial, or utilities environments
- Engineering consultancy or technical project delivery roles
- Experience in energy efficiency or decarbonisation projects is an advantage but not essential.
- Chartered Engineer status or working toward chartership is desirable but not required.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, or similar design tools; energy modelling software a plus.
- Full clean driving license and willingness to travel to client sites as required.
