Job Description
Locum Consultant Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthetist

This is a 10 day locum appointment for a Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Paediatric Cardiac Anaesthesia, available as soon as possible for a period of six months. The role is based at Leeds Children's Hospital (LGI site) within the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, a large quaternary referral centre in Northeast England that offers a full range of surgical and diagnostic specialties.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide anaesthesia for children undergoing cardiac surgery and diagnostic procedures such as cardiac catheterisation and MRI.
  • Supervise patients following anaesthesia and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Deliver a comprehensive anaesthetic service in collaboration with other consultant colleagues in the Trust.
  • Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme for the University of Leeds School of Medicine, including teaching post graduates and resident doctors in the Yorkshire Deanery.
  • Support service plans for the specialty, incorporating changes in clinical practice and new technologies.
  • Contribute to research, teaching and development of new procedures within the Trust.
  • Engage in clinical governance and progress quality improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Accreditation in the FRCA or equivalent and current membership of the Specialist Register (or within six months of admission to the Register for trainees).
  • Full GMC registration and current licence to practice in the UK.
  • Established skills in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia, with at least 12 months of advanced training in the area.
  • Excellent communication and team working skills, and a strong commitment to teaching and service development.
