General Operatives (Inland Fisheries Ireland)

Inland Fisheries Ireland has two vacancies for General Operatives. This role offers an excellent opportunity for highly motivated individuals to join the Angling Development team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide, in support of other IFI staff, comprehensive improvement, development, conservation and protection services.
  • Assist in the construction, provision, inspection, maintenance, repair, removal and replacement of angling access infrastructure (including stands, stiles, footbridges, car parks, trails and signage).
  • Construct stands, stiles, footbridges, fencing, gateways where identified.
  • Erect signage where identified.
  • Tag and update databases.
  • Perform general construction and maintenance work including semi skilled labour such as operating hand tools and machinery for the development, repair and maintenance of angling access facilities and IFI property.
  • Utilise mobile phones or radio communications for coordination of work and assistance in surveys and fisheries patrols.
  • Complete work records, diary sheets and vehicle transport registers as required.
  • Co operate with the introduction of new technologies, equipment, methods and work practices to improve safety, effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Undertake training and personal development programmes as provided by IFI to meet the full requirements of the role.
Key Experience & Qualifications

Essential

  • Leaving Certificate (Level 5 NFQ) or recognised equivalent.
  • Full driving licence valid in the state.
  • Good communication and team working skills.
  • Demonstrates commitment and self motivation.
  • Reliable, conscientious and punctual.
  • Flexible approach to work and unsocial hours.
  • Ability to carry out semi skilled work, such as operating hand tools and machinery.
  • Customer service skills.

Desirable

  • Experience of fisheries, angling, boat handling or other water based activities.
  • Construction skills.
  • Basic IT skills.
  • Relevant experience or knowledge (e.g., construction, fisheries, environment).
  • Ability to tow trailers.
  • Ability to operate power tools.
  • Safe Pass.
Remuneration

The salary scale for General Operatives is a 15 point scale as follows:

  • Point 1 €35,894.07
  • Point 2 €36,664.79
  • Point 3 €38,860.26
  • Point 4 €39,048.70
  • Point 5 €39,224.35
  • Point 6 €39,329.04
  • Point 7 €39,425.59
  • Point 8 €39,526.79
  • Point 9 €39,609.38
  • Point 10 €39,735.01
  • Point 11 €39,833.88
  • Point 12 €39,944.39
  • Point 13 €40,057.22
  • Point 14 €40,274.75
  • Point 15 €40,492.27

Salary will not be subject to negotiation and may be adjusted in line with Government pay policy. New entrants to the public sector start on Point 1 subject to Haddington Road Agreement and subsequent Government Agreements.

Garda Vetting

The successful candidate will need to undergo Garda Vetting and complete safeguarding training before starting the role.

Tenure
