Job Description

Field Service Engineer

Summary:

The role is a high-quality, conscientious Technical Services Engineer supporting the Technical Team and helping develop the expanding Service Department. The candidate must be flexible and meticulous in approach to service, with an in-depth understanding of the service sector.

Essential Functions:

To work effectively as a Field Service Engineer, the candidate is expected to:

  • Be a team player, able to work under pressure to meet demanding, multi-discipline targets, with advanced problem-solving skills across multiple vendors, understanding their setup and operation specific to MTS products, and willing to work outside normal hours.
  • Technical Support: Provide remote support via telephone and remote software to diagnose problems, identify user issues, monitor systems, and perform configuration changes.
  • Field Service: Visit sites for planned preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance after machine failures, installation of new equipment, and upgrades.
  • Spare Parts Management: Maintain in-country spare parts inventory, restock after use, ensure appropriate stock levels, and conduct stock taking as required.
  • Refurbishment: Support sub-assembly refurbishment to improve service costs and preventive maintenance outcomes.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

The responsibilities are highly specialized, covering many disciplines. The successful candidate will have:

  • Electrical/Electronic: Experience with industrial and domestic wiring, ability to interpret electrical and electronic schematics from multiple vendors, fault finding to component level.
  • Mechanical: Ability to understand mechanical drawings, suggest improvements, use hand tools, and handle equipment for installing large, delicate machinery.
  • Computer & IT Skills: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, understanding of databases, PC hardware, networking, and remote system configuration.
  • Field Service Processes: Stock control, procurement, technical report writing, and understanding quality procedures.
  • Health & Safety: Conduct risk assessments, identify safety issues, propose solutions, and understand current legislation.
  • Relevant higher-level qualification in Electronic/Electrical Engineering.
  • Prior relevant Field Service experience.

Work Conditions:

  • Working hours are Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work.
  • The role requires lifting assemblies weighing up to 25kg regularly, and occasionally heavier objects with assistance.
