Consultant Ophthalmologist with subspecialty interest in Glaucoma

The Trust currently provides Ophthalmology outpatient services at Oldham Integrated Care Centre, Rochdale Infirmary and Fairfield General Hospital. All day case surgical activity takes place at Rochdale Infirmary. This post requires cross site working, providing outpatient clinics from different sites and surgical work from mainly Rochdale Infirmary.
The advertised posts will complement a team of 10 Consultants, 4 Associate specialists, 2 speciality doctors and 9 Resident Doctors.
This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions.
We are looking for candidates who are on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview (CCST or CCT in Ophthalmology) or willing to complete the CESR within 12 months of employment.
Main Duties of the JobLeadership and development of ophthalmic subspecialty work. The post holder will have a broad knowledge of Ophthalmology, including sub speciality experience and knowledge of Glaucoma in order to complement existing services.

Person Specification - Qualifications- FRCOphth or show evidence of equivalent training and experience
- Post Graduate Degree e.g. MD, PhD, MSc
- Evidence of Accredited Clinical & Educational Supervision of Medical Learners
- Registration on the GMC Specialist Register - CCT or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
- Inclusion on the Specialist Register / Admission to the Register within 6 months of interview (CCST or CCT in Ophthalmology or within six months of entitlement or willingness to complete CESR within twelve months of employment)
- Extensive experience in Ophthalmology, particularly management of Glaucoma
- Broad experience in the management of all aspects of Ophthalmology
- Good understanding of Clinical Governance
- Evidence of audit work and where this has brought about change
- Evidence of participation in research
- Research Skills: Publication of research articles, demonstrating understanding of research methodology and commitments
- Evidence of relevant peer reviewed papers and other publications (e.g. book chapter, book editor, case report - not abstracts or letters)
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective teams
- Positive attitude towards members of the wider healthcare team
- Evidence of good organizational and leadership skills
- Evidence of development and management of change
- Ability to manage risk and end of life decisions
- An understanding of management in the context of the Health Service
- Able to manage and lead change internally and within multi agency setting
- Attendance at management course
- Is empathetic and sensitive to patients' needs
- Able to explain things clearly - particularly complex or sensitive information
- Is able to influence and persuade effectively
- All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English that are adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues, which could be demonstrated by one of the following: (1) undergraduate medical training in English; (2) IELTS - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 6, Reading 6, Writing 6; (3) OET certificate at grade 'B' in each testing area;
- If applicants believe they have adequate communication skills but do not fit into one of the above examples, they must provide evidence
- Excellent written & verbal communication skills in order to be able to write & present reports at board level
- Experience of teaching juniors, medical students and other health care professionals
- Proven teaching abilities
- Attendance at teaching course
