Consultant Emergency Medicine (EDGH)

To support developments within the Emergency Department at Eastbourne District General Hospital, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust requires a further Consultant in Emergency Medicine. The post holder will assist in the provision of a high quality emergency service as part of the development of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care withinthe speciality.
Applicants must have full GMC registration and be on the specialist register or within 6 months of their CCT .
Main duties of the jobEast Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust operates two level 1 emergency departments at Eastbourne DGH and Conquest Hospital with Conquest designated as a Trauma Unit.Applications are invited for the post of consultant in emergency medicine. The appointee will join the existing consultants to complete a team of 8 in the emergency department.
Duties will be based at Eastbourne but may on occasion work cross-site at Conquest with a 1 in 8 weekend and 1:8 on call. It is anticipated that when all posts are filled the timetabled PAs of all consultants will allow shop floor cover for the following hours:-A rotation between Monday-Fri shop floor cover 0800-00.00Sat-Sun shop floor and 1in 8 on call.Consultant shifts to be covered are 1200 to 2200, 1400 to 0000 and .We are particularly interested in candidates who have commitment to all aspects of Emergency Medicine and are keen to develop their careers.

Person Specification Registration/ Qualifications- Full Registration with GMC and name on specialist register or CCT within 6 months of interview
- Fellowship of College of Emergency Medicine or equivalence
- Other higher qualifications
- Understanding of NHS management structure and the principles of Clinical Governance
- Management course and/or qualifications
- Understanding of the role of research in Emergency Medicine
- Enthusiasm for teaching medical staff, nursing staff and students and other professional groups.
- Qualification in Medical Education
- Wide experience in all aspects of Emergency Medicine
- ALS Provider
- ATLS Provider
- Paediatric Life support Provider
- Experience in Acute Medicine
- Completion of other courses relevant to speciality
- ALS,ATLS Instructor
- Paediatric Life Support Instructor
- Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
- Evidence of completed audit project
- Publication of original research and audit projects
- Effective communicator, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team
- Familiarity with information technology and general computer skills.
- Ability to work with colleagues in other specialities to develop local services
- Professional attitude towards work, and good record of attendance
- Demonstration of management of change in clinical practise and commitment to integration of Emergency and Acute Medicine
