About your job

National Highways has an excellent opportunity for a Construction Assurance Manager to join our Scheme Delivery team in the Northwest region. Reporting directly to the Construction Manager, the Construction Assurance Manager will provide management, coordination, and construction assurance by leading a team of Site Supervisors overseeing H&S compliance of highway major maintenance and minor improvement schemes delivered by the Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), Pavement Delivery Framework (PDF), and third-party contractors across the region.

Please note that additional and/or unsociable working hours, including night work, may be required occasionally, for which there will be paid overtime and/or a night work uplift.

You will be required to drive as part of your role, and you will need a full driving licence with no more than 3 points to be considered for this position.

This role can be based at one of our National Highways locations, either Warrington or Preston.

  • Manage resources engaged in supervision and inspection of works in accordance with contractual terms, and coordinate post-completion activities, including overseeing the preparation of the H&S File.
  • Ensure the completion of planned works to the required standard, including compliance with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and the Manual of Contract Documents for Highways Works (MCHW), and identify and manage the rectification of defects, certifying the completion of works.
  • Verify that contractors comply with HSE legislation, including the CDM Regulations, and ensure the Principal Contractor's duties under the CDM regulations are properly discharged.
  • Recommend process and approach improvements, and proactively identify opportunities for efficiencies in scheme construction.

About you

  • Experience in construction management of civil engineering works, highway maintenance, and structures-related projects.
  • Good understanding of site-based processes, relevant legislation, practices, and policies for health & safety, environmental, and quality management, including knowledge of DMRB, MCHW, Chapter 8, CDM Regulations, and NEC4 contracts.
  • IOSH or SMSTS certification is essential.
  • Strong contractual and commercial awareness, with understanding of supply chain contracts (preferably NEC4) and risk management.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Teams, and PowerPoint.
