Contract: Long-term Full-time Contract Salary: £210.46 - £310.56 Location: Tower Hamlets, East London Start Date: Immediately

  • Are you a qualified and experienced teacher of British Sign Language (BSL)?
  • Do you have a passion for teaching deaf and hard of hearing children in a primary school setting?

  • We are working with a welcoming and inclusive Primary School in Tower Hamlets that serves a diverse community of pupils, including many who are deaf or hard of hearing. They are proud to be a bilingual school, where they promote and celebrate both English and BSL as languages of learning and communication. They have a specialist provision for deaf and hard of hearing pupils, where they receive tailored support from our team of qualified and experienced staff. We also encourage integration and interaction between deaf and hearing pupils, fostering a culture of mutual respect, and understanding.
    Your responsibilities as a BSL Teacher
  • Planning, delivering, and assessing high-quality BSL lessons for pupils across all year groups, following the National Curriculum for BSL
  • Working collaboratively with class teachers, teaching assistants, speech and language therapists and other professionals to ensure that pupils' needs are met
  • Developing pupils' confidence and competence in using BSL as well as English
  • Providing feedback and guidance to pupils and parents on their progress and achievements
  • Contributing to the development and improvement of the BSL curriculum and provision
  • Attending training and meetings as required

  • What you need to be successful in this role
  • Have a recognised teaching qualification, such as QTS or PGCE
  • Have a minimum of Level 3 BSL qualification or equivalent
  • Have previous experience of teaching BSL to primary school pupils, preferably in a mainstream setting
  • Have knowledge of the National Curriculum for BSL and the Deaf Studies curriculum
  • Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both in BSL and English
  • Be creative, enthusiastic, and motivated
  • Be able to work as part of a team and independently
  • Be willing to undergo an enhanced DBS check
