Job Description
AWS Public Cloud Engineer - Contract

A research-driven technology firm with one of the most advanced compute environments in Europe is strengthening its cloud engineering capability. The team is responsible for the secure, high-performance AWS platform that supports a wide range of internal engineering workloads, and they're looking for an engineer who enjoys building reliable infrastructure at scale. In this role you'll shape the core AWS environment, streamline how teams consume cloud services, and raise the bar on automation and security. You'll be joining a group that values clear thinking, high standards, and practical engineering.

Key responsibilities
  • Build and evolve the organisation's AWS foundation, ensuring it is stable, secure, and easy for others to build on
  • Develop infrastructure using modern IaC practices, primarily Terraform, with a focus on reusable, well-structured modules
  • Establish and maintain guardrails around identity, access, governance, and compliance
  • Create tooling and automation that reduce manual effort and improve day-to-day developer workflows
  • Strengthen platform visibility through monitoring, alerting, and operational dashboards
  • Work closely with product and engineering teams to resolve platform issues and improve workload performance
  • Keep ahead of AWS feature releases and highlight opportunities to enhance the platform
What you'll need
  • Deep practical experience with core AWS services in a production environment
  • Strong Terraform skills and a solid understanding of IaC principles
  • A security-first approach to cloud architecture
  • Ability to simplify complex problems and automate repetitive work
  • Comfort working in a fast-moving engineering culture where ownership is expected

If you want to have a direct impact on a highly technical organisation's cloud strategy and enjoy building platforms that other engineers rely on, this will suit you well.
