Associate or Senior Associate - Catastrophic Loss or EL/PL

Our General Insurance team at DWF provides expertise in Catastrophic Loss and EL/PL and is currently seeking a Senior Associate or Associate to handle a varied caseload of litigated Catastrophic Loss and EL/PL defender cases.

We are looking for someone with a mixed defender caseload comprising Employers Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), Catastrophic Loss, Large Loss, Complex loss, Serious Injury and/or Personal Injury cases, raised at summary cause, ordinary sheriff court and Court of Session level.

The role will involve reviewing evidence and quickly progressing cases to the end point, either settlement or proof, in line with client service level agreements.

The role can be worked from Glasgow or Edinburgh on a hybrid basis.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Associate or Associate in our General Insurance team, you will engage in a wide range of activities, such as:

• Working with partners to manage a caseload of high value claims, comprising a variety of defender Employers Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), Catastrophic Loss, Large Loss, Complex loss, Serious Injury and/or Personal Injury matters.
• Drafting pleadings, reports to clients, attending court hearings, working to court deadlines, progressing liability investigations, gathering evidence, instructing experts and considering interesting medical causation issues.
• Prioritise work effectively and to maximise efficiency in working practices, adhering to court deadlines and directions, as well as the client's service level agreements.
• Build working relationships internally and externally in order to develop business networks and create a solid understanding of the Firm's directions and client needs.

Desirable Criteria

• 3+ years PQE, preferable within Employers Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), Catastrophic Loss, Large Loss, Complex loss, Serious Injury and/or Personal Injury
• We will also consider NQ's with an interest and experience in these areas.
• Technically experienced in and a real interest in Casualty, Disease, Employers Liability (EL), Public Liability (PL), Catastrophic Loss, Large Loss, Complex loss, Serious Injury and/or Personal Injury.
• Experience in handling high value defender files either in your own right, or as an assistant to more senior team members.
• Familiar with working in a commercial environment.
