What's the role about?

• Support the design, development, and maintenance of business applications using Microsoft technologies (think C#, .NET, SQL Server, Azure, and more!).
• Learn on the job and through a structured Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship.
• Work with experienced IT professionals and friendly colleagues across the council.
• Help make a real difference to how our services run for the people of Torbay.

What will you do?

• Write and test code, help design new features, and support users.
• Learn about databases, data security, and how to keep information safe.
• Get involved in research, problem solving, and teamwork.
• Attend college one day a week to build your skills and knowledge.
• Enjoy a supportive environment with coaching and mentoring.

What are we looking for?

• Eagerness to learn and a positive attitude.
• Good communication skills - ask questions, share your progress, and listen well.
• Team player who collaborates respectfully and reliably.
• Attention to detail and good time management.
• Basic knowledge of programming (variables, loops, functions), C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and SQL.
• Experience working as part of a team (school, college, or voluntary work).
• GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English, plus a Level 3 qualification in IT or related subject (or equivalent experience).
• Willingness to study for a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.

Bonus points for

• Experience with .NET Core, ASP.NET, Azure, Power Platform, or Agile ways of working.
• Personal coding projects or Microsoft certifications.

Experience & Qualifications

• Educated to GCSE Level (or equivalent) in Maths and English.
• Level 3 qualification in IT or related subject, or equivalent experience.
• Willingness to study a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.
