Application Support Engineer (Linux / SQL / Java)

Location: Basingstoke (Hybrid - Commutable from Reading, Farnborough, Guildford, Newbury, and surrounding areas)

Salary: £40,000 - £42,000 DOE + Hybrid Working + Training + Progression + Excellent Benefits

Are you an experienced Application Support Engineer with strong technical knowledge of Linux and SQL environments?

You'll play a key part in providing high-level technical support, troubleshooting complex system issues, and improving application reliability for internal and external users. The Role:

• Provide 2nd/3rd line support for enterprise and bespoke business applications
• Troubleshoot and resolve application issues, collaborating with development teams where needed
• Manage incidents, service requests, and problems using ITSM tools
• Maintain technical documentation and knowledge base content
• Support application deployments, patch management, and upgrades on Linux platforms
• Contribute to system improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with IT/security standards

The Person:

• 3+ years' experience in Application Support, DevOps, or Software Support roles
• Proficient in supporting Java-based applications on Linux systems
• Knowledge of relational databases (MS SQL Server, Postgres, or MariaDB)
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills with attention to detail
• Experience using ticketing and monitoring tools
• Excellent communication skills and a proactive, adaptable approach
• Knowledge of ITIL, AWS, Terraform, or scripting (PowerShell/Python) is desirable
