Purpose of the Role

Lead practice development initiatives across Children's Social Care, ensuring high-quality, evidence-based, and reflective practice. Provide professional guidance, mentor colleagues, and support service improvement strategies to enhance outcomes for children, young people, and families.

Key Responsibilities
  • Promote strengths-based, child-centred, and trauma-informed practice across teams.
  • Support practitioners in delivering high-quality assessments, interventions, and case management.
  • Lead the implementation of policy, practice guidance, and statutory frameworks.
  • Act as a practice mentor, providing coaching, reflective supervision, and professional consultation.
  • Participate in audits, case file reviews, and service evaluations to monitor practice quality.
  • Identify trends, learning needs, and areas for improvement to inform service development.
  • Develop and deliver training, workshops, and learning sessions for practitioners.
  • Collaborate with health, education, police, and voluntary sector partners to ensure coordinated practice.
  • Provide expert guidance to partner agencies on social work and safeguarding matters.
Person Specification
  • BA/MA Social Work, DipSW, or CQSW.
  • Registered with Social Work England.
  • Post-qualifying experience in children's social care and practice leadership.
  • Statutory children's social work experience, including safeguarding and child protection.
  • Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting social work colleagues.
  • Experience leading practice development, quality assurance, or service improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, assessment, and problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to design, deliver, and evaluate professional development initiatives.
  • Resilient, adaptable, and able to work under pressure.
  • Commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion.
  • Experience with audits, service evaluation, or quality assurance frameworks.
  • Experience working in politically sensitive environments or multi agency partnerships.
  • Knowledge of children with complex needs, including disabilities, mental health, or trauma histories.
