Wirral Council is looking for an active and motivated Active Travel Officer to help drive behaviour change across the borough, encouraging more residents, schools and businesses to choose walking, cycling and other sustainable modes of travel.
Active Travel OfficerFull-time role, 12 month fixed term. Two positions: one full-time, one term-time.
About the RoleThis dynamic, community facing position involves designing and delivering targeted programmes and initiatives that promote safer, more sustainable travel. You will work closely with schools, local communities, businesses and partner organisations to shape healthier travel habits and support the Council's road safety and climate ambitions.
- Lead initiatives such as Modeshift STARS accreditation, local campaigns (e.g. Clean Air Day, Bike Month), and community engagement events.
- Carry out surveys, analyse data and collaborate with stakeholders to tackle barriers to active travel and improve local transport outcomes.
- Deliver training and awareness sessions, set up community steering groups and support School Streets initiatives.
- Passionate about behaviour change, sustainability and road safety, with a genuine interest in improving community well being.
- A confident communicator, able to engage and inspire a wide range of audiences including schools, residents and partners.
- Organised and proactive, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deliver impactful programmes.
- Collaborative, with strong partnership working skills and the ability to build relationships across communities and organisations.
- Data aware, able to gather insights, evaluate outcomes and help shape future initiatives.
Experience delivering education, training or community programmes, organising events, and working directly with the public. Experience in active travel, road safety or behaviour change initiatives would be advantageous.
BenefitsSalary £28,598 to £31,022 plus benefits including pension scheme, life cover and flexible working arrangements. Annual leave starts at 28 days plus public holidays.
