Research Manager | 12 Month Contract | (Inside IR35) | Hybrid - Edinburgh, 2 days pw | Starting ASAP

Day Rate: £232.48

About the Role:

This role is central to driving forward evidence-based investigations through the identification, synthesis, and analysis of large volumes of predominantly qualitative data.

You will have a sound understanding of social science research and qualitative methodologies, and their practical application. You will be able to thrive in an environment that requires flexibility, and have the ability to work both autonomously as well as part of a team. Line management skills and experience are essential.

Main Duties

  • Report to the Policy and Research Team Leader, and be a part of the internal research and analysis team to manage and execute a series of research reports
  • Line management responsibility for Research Officers
  • Build and maintain relationships with Snr stakeholders to manage and respond to research requests and needs.
  • Employ qualitative analysis tools, such as NVivo, to support the ongoing analysis and research outputs. If you have not done this before, a willingness to quickly learn this method and any other software as required.
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, including staff new to research, to ensure the successful operation and logistics of the project.
  • Manage new and existing research contracts, checking in with academics and/or researchers as required and arrange the publication of final reports on the Inquiry website
  • Provide evidence-based reports, summaries and recommendations to policy colleagues and senior members of the Inquiry.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Ability to carry out tasks independently with minimum oversight, balancing a range of competing priorities and deadlines to deliver both short- and long-term goals.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) when dealing with complex issues, to influence decision making and make an impact.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, analyse and critically evaluate information from a variety of sources and draw out key messages to meet the needs of research users.
  • Extensive experience in overseeing all phases of the research process-including design, implementation, analysis, and dissemination-with demonstrable experience in task management and in guiding and supporting staff who are new to research.
