Independent Living Services ILS (disabled facilities service DFS) are a division of the Council. The Service funds the provision of adaptations in domestic properties for disabled applicants qualifying for assistance. Funding can be made available for the purchase and installation of specialist equipment; the provision of adaptations and works that prevent slips, trips and falls in and around the home irrespective of tenure.
To support this area DFS operate an "Agency Service" that provides a professional, technical and administrative service to the applicants (service users).
The Disabled Facilities Service is looking to appoint a domestic property surveyor as a team member. They will need to be an enthusiastic, confident, self-starter to assist in the management of construction work and the provision of adaptations in domestic properties. Works are primarily designed and delivered for elderly, disabled and vulnerable citizens. Applicants must commit to maintaining the existing high-quality customer experience.
Work will include managing contractors who:
o Provide bespoke adaptations identified by the attending Occupational Therapist.
o Undertake repairs and replacement of existing adaptations & specialist equipment.
o Complete repair and renovation work and general domestic construction schemes.
The role demands that you maintain an ongoing awareness of relevant legislation and working policies and practices.
The successful applicant MUST have a minimum 5 years' experience in undertaking the tasks detailed below.
You must be able to demonstrate recent, relevant experience in:
1. Surveying of domestic properties.
2. Designing bespoke adaptations.
3. Preparation of schedules of work and drawings (using design software).
4. Managing the construction, and repair, and maintenance of all types of domestic properties.
5. Monitor performance of contractors on site.
6. Manage construction projects from inception to completion.
The successful applicant will be required to liaise with occupational therapists, contractors, specialist installers, Regulatory bodies and other stakeholders (including Cllrs, Politicians and senior Council officers) in order to ensure the provision of a high-quality service.
The successful applicant will have (or be studying for) a recognised qualification in construction OR be willing to commit to study to achieve a minimum ONC (or equivalent) in a construction discipline.
You will also be able to demonstrate the highest levels of personal integrity and flexibility. As a good communicator, you should be capable of resolving difficult problems or issues and be able to adapt easily to change.
The ability to speak other languages, in particular Welsh, and Community Languages would be an advantage.
This post is temporary until 28th August 2026.
You must possess a full driving Licence.
