Rate: £600-£650 per day
Overview
We're looking for an experienced Microsoft Purview SME with strong hands-on knowledge of data governance, data quality, and metadata management - not just DLP or security.
You'll support a major data transformation programme for a leading UK consultancy, helping design and implement governance frameworks across Azure and Microsoft 365 data estates.
Key Responsibilities

Design, configure and implement Purview Data Governance solutions including:

Data Map, Data Catalog, Business Glossary, and Data Lineage

Metadata ingestion, classification, and scanning across hybrid sources (Azure, SQL, Synapse, Power BI)

Establish Data Domains, ownership models, and stewardship roles

Define and implement Data Quality and Metadata Management practices

Integrate Purview with Azure Data Factory, Synapse, and Microsoft Fabric

Collaborate with Data Owners, Architects, and Stewards to operationalise governance policies

Develop and deliver workshops on data management best practice

Create dashboards and metrics to monitor data quality and compliance maturity

Contribute to the definition of a scalable data governance operating model
Required Skills & Experience

3+ years of experience with Microsoft Purview (Data Catalog, Data Map, Business Glossary, Lineage)

Deep understanding of metadata management, data quality, and governance frameworks

Hands-on experience integrating Purview with Azure SQL, Synapse, Power BI, and Fabric

Proven ability to deliver data governance operating models (roles, policies, stewardship)

Familiarity with Collibra, Informatica, or Alation (nice to have)

Excellent stakeholder skills and the ability to lead governance workshops

Strong knowledge of Azure data services and data architecture concepts
Desirable

Experience delivering data governance within regulated industries (finance, public sector, pharma, utilities)

Knowledge of data privacy frameworks (GDPR, DPA 2018)

Microsoft certifications in Data Engineering, Data Governance, or Azure Fundamentals
