Head of Account Management

We're looking for an experienced and commercially astute Head of Account Management to lead our Strategic Accounts function. In this critical role, you'll be responsible for nurturing and growing relationships with our highest-value clients, ensuring we deliver exceptional service, drive exponential revenue growth, and secure long-term partnerships. You will build and lead a high-performing team of Strategic Account Managers, setting the vision, strategy, and execution plan to maximise value for both our clients and our business.
This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping the future of our Strategic Accounts portfolio and make a significant impact on our commercial success.
You'll be accountable for delivering and improving outcomes that directly affect Checkatrade's commercial performance; including debt recovery rates, churn reduction, renewal performance, and payment compliance. Success in this role means:
Defining the structure, standards, and metrics of a function that's evolving from patchy manual execution to commercially-powered scale
Building a culture of accountability, clarity, and ownership across teams
Owning the data, insights, and performance infrastructure that drives day-to-day outcomes and long-term strategy
You'll be expected to operate with full ownership, balancing short-term performance with long-term strategic bets, and regularly presenting plans and insights to leadership
Location - Kings Cross, London - 4 days per week
What You'll Be Doing
Strategic Leadership
Define and execute the strategy for managing and growing our Strategic Accounts segment.
Shape and embed account management frameworks, account plans, and revenue growth strategies tailored to the trades industry.
Collaborate closely with Sales, Product, Marketing, Credit control, and senior leadership to ensure alignment on strategic priorities.
Team Leadership & Development
Lead, coach, and develop a team of Strategic Account Managers focused on retention and growth of high-value members.
Instil commercial rigor and accountability across the team, with clear KPIs and structured performance management.
Foster a culture of proactive member engagement, data-driven decision-making, and continuous improvement.
Client Relationship Management
Act as an executive-level partner for key strategic members, understanding their businesses, challenges, and commercial goals.
Develop trusted relationships that drive retention, upsell, and advocacy for Checkatrade's products and services.
Manage escalations and complex negotiations where needed, maintaining a customer-first mindset.
Revenue Growth & Retention
Identify and unlock opportunities for upsell, cross-sell, and expansion within strategic accounts.
Partner with Sales to support renewals, negotiations, and complex commercial discussions.
Drive revenue predictability through robust forecasting and pipeline management.
Insights & Continuous Improvement
Analyze client data and feedback to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
Work with Product and Marketing to feed client insights into roadmap planning and go-to-market strategies.
Develop and refine best practices, playbooks, and processes for strategic account management
Influence the product roadmap and shape up cycle to ensure solutions are built with Enterprise features
Operational Excellence & Transformation
Help transition Checkatrade from a transactional sales model to a relationship-led, consultative account management approach.
Build and refine tools, processes, and reporting to support effective strategic account management.
Champion a test-and-learn mindset, sharing insights and successes across the wider sales and commercial team
What You Bring
Significant experience (typically 8+ years) in Account Management, Customer Success, or Strategic Partnerships, preferably in a B2B SaaS, technology, or enterprise environment.
Proven track record of managing and growing high-value enterprise accounts and navigating complex client organisations.
Experience leading and developing teams, with strong people management and coaching skills.
Exceptional relationship-building and stakeholder management abilities, including comfort engaging at C-suite level.
Commercial acumen with experience in contract negotiation, revenue forecasting, and growth planning.
Data-driven mindset with the ability to turn insights into action.
Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills.
Highly organised, proactive, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment.
