We have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our integrated mental health team at HMP Askham Grange. HMP Askham Grange is an open category D female prison based in Askham Richard, near York, housing around 120 women. You will be joining an established and experienced team, supporting women aged 18 plus; the site includes a mother and baby unit. This role has a low volume of patients requiring Psychiatrist support, enabling you to provide consistent and high quality patient care.
Hours and salaryHours: 1 day per month / 8 hours to be worked between Monday-Friday, 8.30am-4.30pm
Salary: This part-time role offers a salary up to £189,900 per annum FTE, depending on experience.
How we will support you- Be part of a team of 15+ experienced and supportive Consultant psychiatrists
- Attend monthly Consultant meetings and 1:1 clinical supervision
- Bespoke induction, including the Introducing Health in Justice training course

Candidates are required to have a legal right to work in the UK and, due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.
Main duties of the job- Provide excellent clinical care, assessment and treatment to patients on the caseload onsite
- Actively participate in the strategic direction of the mental health service, lead senior mental health clinicians on service developments and provide clinical supervision
- Work within the multidisciplinary team to review referrals, determine appropriate treatment plans, conduct risk assessments, and engage in multidisciplinary complex case reviews
- Registered professional with current GMC registration
- Specialist Registration in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry
- Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
- Understanding of the complexities of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working
- Up-to-date knowledge in adult psychiatry and personality disorder (PD)
- Awareness of current issues in mental health service provision, policy and legislation
- Experience working in secure environments and in prison health settings
