Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a full-time substantive Consultant Psychiatrist. This post is based on the Living well Model in Oldham and is a Community post.

This is an exciting time to join the Trust and there are many opportunities to contribute to the organisations' development and to look at service redesign models. Oldam has a very strong teaching commitment and candidates will be expected to contribute to the teaching of medical and nursing staff. There are close links to ongoing research projects. The Consultants contribute to local service user & carer groups.

Main duties of the job

The Living Well psychiatrist will offer expert advice to GPs for patients not currently open to secondary care mental health services. The service willadvise about medication, signposting to other services and specialties', as well as clinical management and diagnostic advice. The service will be provided on a daily basis, Monday to Friday

The post holder will work with the Living Well in Oldham service, working across Oldham as a consultant psychiatrist, providing clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary team.

As this is a new and innovative service it is anticipated that some work would be managerial and consist of developing and expanding the team, delivering training to new team members, and championing the service with other stakeholders.

To provide high-quality Mental Health Care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the community

To work closely with other teams and Consultants to ensure coherent and high-quality mental health care for adults with severe and enduring mental health problems within the Oldham area

To work with the other Consultants to support the development of the service, and to attend local and divisional service development meetings

Working for our organisation

The post holder will be based at the Cherrywood Outpatients Clinic, Royal Oldham Hospital. Oldham operates an Inpatient- Outpatient model (New Ways of Working) and is staffed by 6 full-time Consultants in Adult Psychiatry. Each Community Consultant is allocated a Junior Doctor (NW Deanery training schemes) to work with them with support from advanced practitioner and sessional input from a speciality doctor. The EIT is covered by a part time consultant.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Applicants must be on the GMC's Specialist Register or eligible for inclusion or be within six months' of the anticipated award of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Adult Psychiatry at the time of interview for the post.

Low frequency on-call (1 in 31) with full second tier on call and 1 day off after your on call.

Person specification Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
  • MRCPsych OR MRCPsych equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Additional clinical qualifications
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months
  • Approved clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment
  • Approved under S12 OR able to achieve with 3 months of appointment
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions on practice
Clinical skills, knowledge and experience
  • Excellent knowledge in specialty
  • Excellent clinical skills using bio-psycho-social perspective and wide medical knowledge
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty
  • Makes decisions based on evidence and experience including the contribution of others
  • Able to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Wide range of specialist and sub-specialist experience relevant to post within NHS or comparable service
Academic skills and lifelong learning
