Job Description

The ENT Department at Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust is looking for an ENT Consultant to join our expanding team across our three hospital sites: Stoke Mandeville Hospital, Wycombe Hospital Amersham Hospital.

There will be on call commitments in Oxford University Hospitals Foundation Trust as well as the opportunity to develop additional clinical activities there.

We are seeking a new team member to continue the development of our dynamic and welcoming department. We are particularly looking for someone able to apply themselves to benign head and neck surgery and laryngology with a particular interest in complex swallowing problems.

Main duties of the job
  • Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in the management of ENT
  • Active participation in departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Education
  • Work within a team to address ENT problems within the inpatient population of BH
  • Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Participation in the on call emergency rota at OUHFT as a 1 in 14 on call service as consultant on call with Specialty Registrar and Core Trainee or Foundation Doctor as a team. This covers referrals from Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire (no emergency or inpatient ENT service) as well as tertiary referrals from surrounding hospitals e.g. Milton Keynes University Hospital and supporting OUHFT inpatient services including neurosurgery and paediatric intensive care units
  • Attendance at OUH Clinical Governance and Audit sessions

Person Specification Skills, Abilities & Knowledge
  • Excellent leadership, organisational, communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant
  • Evidence for surgical and clinical skills in ENT surgery to undertake a consultant role
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Good spoken and written English
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Experience of teaching doctors-in-training and undergraduates
  • Experience of clinical audit
Experience
  • Broad experience in the management of ENT elective surgery and emergency ENT with training to specialist level or equivalent desirable
  • Ability to make good decisions at consultant level
  • Evidence of clinical audit
  • Experience of MDT working
Education & Qualifications
  • Full GMC Registration
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR date within 6 months of interview
  • Appropriate higher ENT surgical qualification
  • Subspecialist training in benign head and neck pathology and surgery, complex swallow and phonosurgery including local anaesthetic medialisation
  • Interest in MDT working such as lump in the neck clinic
