An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Cardiac team as a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD). The post will be primarily based at The Royal Sussex County Hospital, Brighton, but there will be opportunities to work elsewhere within the trust. There will be sessions in advanced imaging: cardiac MRI and echo. As a designated Level 2 Adult Congenital Heart Disease (ACHD) Centre, we offer a comprehensive and patient-centred service for adults living with congenital heart conditions. Our multidisciplinary team, comprising specialist cardiologists, nurses, physiologists, and allied health professionals, delivers expert care across outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic settings.

The tertiary centre is based at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton, is a world-class facility providing advanced diagnostics, interventional cardiology and cardiac surgery.

Main duties of the job

Advanced imaging sessions - ECHO and cardiac MRI

Working collaboratively with other specialist cardiology teams.

Representation at ACHD network events and contribution to weekly regional MDT.

Audit and education

In-patient duties - Team of the Week (TOW) consultant (1:12)

The post holder will be responsible for providing consultant support for Team of the Week, consultant delivered acute cardiology rota 1:12 frequency. All routine clinical activities are cancelled during TOW week.

The post will be predominantly based at Royal Sussex County Hospital site though the successful candidate could be expected to work within the entire UHSussex network.

ON CALL ROTA 1:11 (currently weekends Friday - Sunday) Low frequency, Category B

Person Specification Experience/ Qualifications
  • oFull GMC Registration with a licence to practice
  • oCCT in Cardiology or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
  • oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
  • oHigher Degree
Clinical Skills and Experience
  • oFormal training ACHD
  • oComprehensive clinical experience in ACHD
  • oFormal training in advanced cardiac imaging
  • oAccreditation in ECHO and/CMR (BSE/ESC/SCMR or equivalent
  • oFormal training in inherited cardiac conditions (aortopathy)
  • oFormal training in obstetric cardiology
  • oExpertise in advanced Cardiac imaging
Knowledge
  • oBreadth of experience in and outside specialty
Organisation and Planning
  • oExperience and ability to work in multi-professional teams
  • oUnderstanding of: NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints
  • oEvidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended
Teaching Skills
  • oEvidence of an interest and commitment to teaching
