The Role

Join United Utilities as a Construction Co-ordinator Intern in our Construction team and get involved on the front line building huge infrastructure projects. We are in a period of unprecedented investment. This scheme will allow you to immerse yourself in the exciting world of project delivery, where you'll gain hands-on experience through placements in the wider engineering team in design management, commercial management, and construction coordination.

You'll be at the forefront of managing relationships with third parties and stakeholders, ensuring our projects are innovative, reliable, and cost-effective. Your role will involve providing crucial technical input on construction schedules, quality, safety, environment, and cost, ensuring projects are completed on time and within scope. What will I be doing?

  • Ensuring projects follow our key principles.
  • Managing relationships with contractors.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for any issues that arise during construction
  • Coordinating work between different teams to keep projects running smoothly.
  • Supporting senior managers on more complex projects.
  • Conducting regular safety and compliance checks on construction sites.
  • Learning and applying the role of the Supervisor under NEC4 Contract.
  • Carrying out on-site inspections to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with company standards.

What do I need to be successful?

We require our interns to be expecting a minimum 2:1 degree in Engineering, Construction, Surveying or Architecture. You must be in your penultimate year of university study.

You will also need:

  • Strong planning and organisational skills to keep projects on track.
  • Excellent communication skills - both written and spoken.
  • Able to demonstrate a practical application of your knowledge
  • A proactive attitude with the drive to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexible to work throughout the North West region
  • Great team-working skills to thrive in an interdisciplinary setting.
  • A full UK driving licence (upon application) and access to a vehicle for business use.
