The Environment & Innovation team is at the forefront of Southern Water's drive to enhance and protect the environment. Deploying the latest innovative solutions and working in partnership with our customers and stakeholders, the team takes a holistic approach to managing water quality and flow across the region. The portfolio has rapidly expanded from £50million to over £2 billion in the next 10-year period. This is a fast-paced team that is now expanding to continue to deliver a larger programme of sustainable and innovative solutions.
A brand-new position has been created to join our Environment & Innovation team as a Catchment Specialist - Water Quality Wastewater Interactions.
Job Overview
As a Catchment Management Specialist within our Catchment Strategy Team, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering strategies, projects and actions that influence our 5-50 year strategic plans. Your work will focus on catchment-scale enhancements to water and environmental quality, with a particular emphasis on the interaction between water quality -for drinking water- and wastewater systems, and collaboration with internal stakeholders and Catchment Partnerships.

This role will be full time Monday to Friday with a hybrid approach to working between our Falmer office and home. We are offering a salary of circa £45,000 as well as other benefits including:

- Technical Management - support technical delivery and reporting to meet regulatory requirements. Provide evaluations and recommendations on environmental measures to mitigate predicted challenges.
- Technical Expertise - act as a subject matter expert on catchment management, water quality, and environmental policy. Scope and evaluate projects for delivery via specialist frameworks.
- Collaboration - work cross-functionally to identify synergies and efficiencies across projects and plans such as the Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans
- Engagement - build relationships with regulators , water companies, industry groups, and Catchment Partnerships.
About You
- Proven experience in environmental and water quality investigations and catchment management planning/delivery.
- Strong technical report writing and review skills.
- Knowledge of water sector operations and regulatory frameworks.
- Ability to manage multi-disciplinary projects to high standards and deadlines.
- Experience with water quality monitoring, data analysis, GIS mapping, and dashboard reporting.
- Experience managing consultancy teams and technical work delivery.
- Degree (and ideally a Master's) in Environmental Science or related discipline, or equivalent experience
- In-depth knowledge of water quality investigations, catchment risk assessments, and translating regulatory requirements into actionable plans.
